prototyping the cellbooth: Shower Tent 2 -”porta privy”

Bloged in Wearable Technologies by jennylc Monday April 24, 2006

This tent opened up nicely, but was nearly impossible to get back in it’s bag. Shawn Van Every and a student finally got it back in the bag after a long struggle.

here’s some video of it finally collapsing:

another tent order

Bloged in Principles of Design,Wearable Technologies by jennylc Monday April 17, 2006

I’ve also just ordered one of these:

I’m hoping to repurpose it for my needs.
Here’s are the Stats:

“Quick and easy set up tent for the Pett™ Portable Toilet or any other portable toilet. Hinged legs make setting up and taking down a breeze. Insures privacy and ventilation.

  • Easy to set up.
  • Zippered door.
  • Coated 1.9 oz. nylon.
  • Fiberglass frame.
  • 3 windows with storm flaps.
  • Inside storage pocket.
  • Floorless for sanitary reasons.
  • Velcro flap on top for use with portable shower.
  • Stakes and carry bag included.
  • Base Size: 4 ft. x 4 ft.
  • Height: 6 ft. 6 in.
  • Weight: 6 lbs.
  • Pack Size: 28in. x 6in.”

My worry is that it might be light enough to blow away with no floor. Perhaps i will put a strap in the bottom for the user to step on so that they weigh it down

I turned this purse and some spray paint:

The one on the left fastens with the magnetic clasp from the purse.  The one on the right fastens by inserting the band through the silver loop

Protoyping the cellbooth: tents?

Bloged in Materials,Principles of Design,Wearable Technologies by jennylc Saturday April 15, 2006

i went to paragon to look at tent construction. It turns out that they only have a book of tents and nothing setup on the floor. The rep whom i spoke to showed me the difference between free standing and staked tents. I’ve been searching for tents online and the closest thing i’ve seen to the shape i’m looking for are shower tents. I ordered one of these and plan on hacking it:

hacking couture- the polo

Bloged in Wearable Technologies by jennylc Thursday April 6, 2006

Giana Gonzalez, who’s working on her thesis “hacking couture“, ran a polo shirt hacking workshop at ITP last week.

I hacked one of my old striped polo shirts from when i was teacher into an off the shoulder number, while gabe went punk rock style:

noise proof + portable?

Bloged in Wearable Technologies by jennylc Wednesday April 5, 2006

i’ve been investigating how to make the phone booth sound proof while still keeping it light enough for portability. Every material that i’ve looked into is too heavy. Perhaps i can use a white noise machine to mask the conversation. Anyone have one handy?

now off to go look for more ponies.
