Apache doesn’t like applescript

Bloged in Networked Expressions by jennylc Monday November 28, 2005

I got this email from Cory (my applescript/perl guru friend) today:

“Hey Jenny,

I’m starting to be afraid I led you down a rabbit hole with the
perl->applescript stuff.

I found this, which you might want to check out:

…;”

Turns out my plan to have an applescript launched from my perl backend won’t work because of the way apache is set up.

perl and the popularity dialer II

After surveying everyone on the floor about viewing perl/cgi files locally and coming up empty handed, I found some other documentation showing that the cgi files can be in a completely different folder than the one I was trying to work with. Not sure what was up with all those other docs.

perl and the popularity dialer

Bloged in Networked Expressions by jennylc Sunday November 27, 2005

Last week, I realized that it would probably be best to write the backend of my website in perl since I’ve already got a perl script talking to applescript. i’ve run into problems running my first perl script locally on my machine though. It works fine on my itp website so I know it’s not the code. Unfortunatly, much of the documentation on how to do this is written for OS 9. I had Josh Klein help me out for a bit. He found some leads, but i’m still not sure what’s wrong.

I’ve posted to the list and asked Cory for his advice. Hopefully, I can resolve this administration problem soon. In the meantime, I will try to work from the web.

b)To get out of a bad date/boring meeting
c)To be reminded or some event.

2)Via a web interface,
a)user registers with name, cell phone number, time to be called.
b)user chooses male/female canned message.
c)User chooses type of message

3)Site calls user at chosen time, message plays.

4)User listens for prompts in the message and, hopefully, convincingly fakes a phone conversation.

5)User looks popular, gets out of a bad date/boring meeting, is reminded to do something.
