can someone please explain this picture to me?

Michael Jackson – Interactivity Pioneer?
Since i’ve begun ITP, i’ve been seeing everything through the lense of interactivity. The other night I went out with Joey and Gabe who got down on the dance floor with three generations of women from a hungarian family to a Michael Jackson playlist. My mind was recalled to the “Billie Jean” video.

That light up floor is so freakin’ cool even by today’s standards.
Can we please give Michael Jackson an honorary ITP degree from for his trailblazzing use of interactive technology in his videos? Maybe he’ll send Bubbles the monkey in his place to accept it.
smoking observations from TNO 9.22.05
I interviewed/observered several people standing outside smoking at TNO last week. Turns out Matt Chmiel really does have a pipe.

Walter Benjamin
It took me 4 tries to get through “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” and I only got halfway there. I’ve now spent over three hours reading and re-reading re-re-reading. While some of his sentences and sentiments are clear, I still don’t know what his overall message is. Am I retarded? I think this is why I ended up studying engineering instead of Art History.

lost in queens
I got lost in jackson heights, queens yesterday. The one person around to ask directions only spoke chinese and had a speech impediment.
Note to self: read a tutorial on how the queens addressing system works before going out there again.
Smithson’s floating island
I sincerely hope that Robert Smithson had a sense of humor about his art because I found Smithson’s floating island to be one of the most imaginative yet comical pieces of art I’ve seen in a long time.
Elephants in the Nights of Metula
I saw Elephants in the Nights of Metula on Friday at Eyebeam.
It will be filed, along with so many things i’ve seen lately, under the topic “things I don’t really get”. Something about Poets, elephant graveyards, yiddish and truspel (a phonetic written version of english). But I must say, i’m still haunted by the female narrators vibrating, but strong Argentinian/Israeli accent.
thoughts on riding the bus
i’m trying to come up with an interesting item to give people on the bus to garner some sort of response. A ribbon? maybe i’ll go the forrest gump route and sit there with a box of chocolates.
this assignment reminds me of the cbs special “riding the bus with my sister”. check out this link if you missed it.
